Eminem Is The King Of Workout Playlists On Spotify

Some of the biggest hits on music charts helped people stay fit in 2018

Eminem is famous for good reason. He’s an icon and a legend in hip hop. Lyrically, he’s the GOAT, he’s even parlayed his talents in acting earning Oscar nods for his performances but who would have guessed the belligerent and mentally unstable Slim Shady character Eminem created, would be the go-to artist for leading millions to fitness and wellness? According to Spotify, Eminem’s song Till I Collapse is the most-streamed workout song of all time.

Despite having debuted in 2012, the rapper’s track features on Spotify’s list of the top five workout songs of 2018. It comes in third place after Cardi B’s I Like It and Drake’s God’s Plan

Although Eminem’s 2002 hit song is the most streamed workout song of all time on Spotify, it only comes in third place for 2018, beaten by Drake’s “God’s Plan”. However, “Till I Collapse” is still the go-to song for males in the 13-34 age group, while women apparently prefer sweating it out to Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk”.

This woman, however, does not fit that profile.

I’m that female smoking O.G, watching UFC and working out to Eminem, with my gold wireless Beat headphones on chanting ‘This is your moment/You own it./don’t  ever let it go”, out loud and, unbothered by anyone in my proximity who’s noticed that I can’t sing or who doesn’t like my song choices. I’ve always noticed that it’s mainly been the tomboys and cool chics who dig Eminem. They’re not intimidated or easily offended by his pungent lyrics. While most women find Eminem’s lyrical content disrespectful, aggressive and unstable, I’ve always seen it as humorous, intelligent and witty.

But I digress here. Back to the stats…

Generation X and Baby Boomers within the 35-54 aged crowd aren’t listening to Eminem as much as they are rocking out to 80s anthems. According to Spotify, the go-to workout track for Generation X’ers and Baby Boomers is the classic anthem, Eye of the Tiger by Survivor.

Again, I don’t fit into this profile even though I am from that same Generation X demographic. That’s the thing with stats; they rarely account for the fringe-that left of center space that’s big enough for people to notice it but too unfamiliar to travel it for fear of leaving the mainstream herd. Stats are basic and boring but once again, I digress.

Perhaps the most surprising stat, is the track that’s most popular with our grandparents’ age group-anyone over 65 years old- is Meghan Trainor’s All About That Bass.  Picture your grandparent/s getting down to this song on a regular and consistent basis. I just caught the visual of that and it’s hilarious. On second thoughts, stats can be fun too.

Spotify’s list of the globe’s top five workout songs of all time:

  1. Till I Collapse – Eminem
  2. Lose Yourself (From 8 Mile Soundtrack) – Eminem
  3. Stronger – Kanye West
  4. POWER – Kanye West
  5. Can’t Hold Us (feat. Ray Dalton) – Macklemore and Ryan Lewis
