Grammy award-winning Blues-Rock guitarist Marcus King and his band recorded a couple of tracks for the Spotify Singles series last year at the renowned Electric Lady studio in New York City. For their cover of Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy,” they took inspiration from Afrobeat, and gave their own spin to Marcus’ original song “It’s Too Late.”

When asked about his experience recording at Electric Lady Studios, King stated that it was “like a religious experience” for him and the band. They were greeted at the door by their engineer, William Garrett, and instantly felt at home. The downstairs neighbors complained about the noise from the guitar amplifiers in the bathroom, but King didn’t care – it was a dream come true.

The popular duo known as Gnarls Barkley, consisting of CeeLo Green and Danger Mouse, released their debut single “Crazy” in 2006. The song quickly became a worldwide hit, reaching the number two spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States. Marcus King Band is known for performing a soulful cover of “Crazy” live in concert.
